Biography

Naved Aslam is a popular Indian stage actor, scriptwriter, and television and film actor. He was born and brought up in Delhi. His father is an Urdu Literature Professor in Jawaharlal Nehru University while his mother is a high school teacher in a government school. His father is the one who introduced him to the theater. For over ten years, he has written, directed and acted in several stage plays in Delhi. He was trained in Indian classical vocal music and took a Master’s degree in Mass Communications from a film school in Delhi. Naved used to be a writer and broadcaster of film reviews at the External Services Division of All India Radio. Later on, he became a freelance camera operator of NewsTrack video news magazine.

He came to Mumbai to pursue his dream of becoming a director. He has spent three years working on several foreign films until he met Mira Nair. He was supposed to be Mira’s assistant director for her next film project titled ‘ Kamasutra’, but in a twist of fate, the project slipped out of his hands.Naved turned actor and first acted on DD National’s ‘ Byomkesh Bakshi’ in 1993. His breakthrough came in the year 1996, through Sony TV’s medical drama show, ‘ Hospital’. He has been a part of the very popular soap opera, ‘ Pavitra Rishta’. Naved also acted as Chand Raichand in the supernatural TV series, ‘ Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani’ on STAR One channel. He played a major role as Usman Abdullah, a successful Mumbai-based business person, in the television show ‘ Beintehaa’ on Colors TV in 2013. He bagged the role of Bairam Khan, (Mughal Army’s Military Commander) in Ekta Kapoor’s historical drama series, ‘ Jodhaa Akbar’ on Zee TV. In 2015, he portrayed the role of Bhishma in the mythological series, ‘ Suryaputra Karn’ on Sony TV.He is notable for his role as Inspector Joginder Singh Solanki in action crime drama film, ‘Sehar’ in 2005. The talented actor appeared in the Bollywood comedy-drama film, ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.’ in 2007.

He was seen in Anjan Dutt’s ‘Chowrasta Crossroads of Love’ in 2009. In the following year, he played as Karan Singh in the Hindi-language film, ‘Mr. Singh Mrs. Mehta’, opposite Aruna Shields in the lead role. Naved also acted as Ajay Devgn’s henchman in the highly successful period gangster film, ‘ Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai’; a movie that was produced by the Balaji Motion Pictures in the year 2010. Besides acting in the Bollywood film industry, Naved played as a police officer in the Assamese socio-political thriller film, ‘Ekhon Nedekha Nodir Xhipare’ in 2012.Naved is married to Nikhat Aslam, a video editor and they have two sons. After his father had introduced him to the literature world, he had been writing sonnets in both Urdu and English languages. He helmed the play, Plane Crazy About Love.
